Merle H. Trewin

            Merle Harland Trewin, son of Jesse and Martha Zipse Trewin, was born July 22, 1917, at the Trewin farm home of rural Waucoma. He received his education in the Alpha School. He served with the U.S. Army at Camp Crowder, Missouri during World War II.

            He was united in marriage with Lucille Tubbs on September 11, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed on the family farm, near Waucoma for their entire married lives. Lucille’s death occurred on February 5, 2006, and Merle continued to make his home at the farm.

            Merle’s death occurred at the farm on Friday, August 24, 2012, at the age of ninety-five. He was a longtime member of Ott-Stedman Post #623, American Legion of Alpha.

            He is survived by two sons, Harlan (Denise) Trewin of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and James (Cheryl) Trewin of Bend, Oregon; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

            In addition to his wife, Lucille, Merle was preceded in death by a son, Jake in 2011; an infant daughter, Martha Mary in 1947; his parents; his brother, Lynn in 2010; and a sister, Martha Grace, who died in infancy.

            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye with Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Interment will be at Alpha Cemetery with military rites by Ott-Stedman Post #623, American Legion of Alpha and Arnold-Rogers Post #312, American Legion of Hawkeye.
